Pickup Trucks typically aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when you picture a family vehicle. However, there are quite a few trucks on the market that can hold the whole family in style and comfort.

A crew-cab pickup truck with two bench seats can seat six people fairly comfortably. There are ten truck options that can come with six seats. The Nissan Titan, the Chevrolet 1500 and HD, the GMC Sierra 1500 and HD, the Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty, the Ram 1500 and HD, and the Toyota Tundra.

Which Pickup Trucks Can Seat Six?

These pickup trucks all have an available option for two bench seats with six seatbelts, instead of the standard two bucket seats, and a bench seat truck configuration.

Nissan Titan

The Nissan Titan may not be the most popular choice for a full-sized pickup truck, but its redesign in 2016 makes it a contender for a top, crew cab truck. The six-seat option is available in the lower trim packages (the S and SV).

The Titan comes in either a King Cab style, which is more compact, or a Crew Cab, which has more seat and leg room.

Specifications

The Nissan Titan is a half ton pickup truck with a 5.6-liter V-8 engine with 400 horsepower and 413 pounds per foot of torque. The basic model is rear wheel drive, but the 4×4 model has a switch operated 2-speed transfer case 4-wheel drive.

Overall Ratings

According to Car and Driver’s review, the Titan is a capable vehicle, but it is lacking in technology, options, and power when compared to its competitors.

Car and Driver places the Titan in 8th place after trucks like the Ram, or the Ford F-150. They even preferred the Toyota Tundra, the other foreign truck option available, over the Titan.

Chevy Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500

Chevrolet and GMC are considered to be corporate twins, meaning, they make nearly identical vehicles. The Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 are some of the best selling trucks in the nation.

This pair of trucks has six-seater models in the more work-oriented trim packages. Look for a crew or double cab model to pick the two-bench-seat option.

Specifications

The basic trim package (called the Elevation in GMC, or RST for Chevy), comes with a 2.7-liter Turbo engine, with 310 horsepower, and 430 pounds per foot of torque. It is an 8-speed automatic transmission, complete with tow/haul mode.

You can upgrade your engine to a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine or 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6 engine (10-speed automatic) within this trim package.

Overall Ratings

Car and Driver gives the Silverado/Sierra a solid recommendation as a good working-class vehicle. The 2022 models have restyled front ends, and updated interiors in the LT models. Note that the LT models do not have the 6-seat option.

Overall, Car and Driver ranks the Sierra and Silverado as numbers five and six for half-ton pickup trucks, after the Ram 1500, and Ford F-150.

Chevy Silverado HD/GMC Sierra HD

These Heavy Duty or HD versions of the popular Silverado and Sierra trucks also offer a six seat option along with more towing and hauling capacity than the smaller 1500’s.

These tough trucks come in 2500 and 3500 versions. Once more, the lower trim packages include the option for two bench seats (WT, Custom, and LT for the Chevrolet and Pro, SLE, and SLT for the GMC).

Specifications

Both these trucks come with a standard 6.6-Liter V8 engine with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The gas powered engine can tow up to 17,400 pounds.

There is also a diesel version of the Sierra/Silverado HD with the Duramax 6.6-Liter V8 that makes 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine makes towing easy with its ability to tow up to 36,000 pounds.

Overall Ratings

Car and Driver calls the Sierra and Silverado HD the “workhorses of the truck world”. They are powerful trucks that are helpful tools for hard work. They also ride fairly easily for such big, powerful trucks.

The Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD are number three and four in the rankings for the top heavy-duty truck, behind the Ram 2500/3500, and the Ford Super Duty.

Ford F-150

The solid Ford F-150 has been America’s best-selling vehicle for over forty years! The country’s most loved truck comes with a two-bench seat option in the SuperCab or SuperCrew versions of the XL, XLT, or Lariat.

Specifications

The F-150 has an engine option available for just about anyone! Ford’s engines in the F-150 are:

  • 3-liter V-6 with 290 horsepower,
  • 0-Liter V-8 with 400 horsepower
  • Twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 with 325 horsepower
  • Twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 with 400 horsepower
  • 0-liter diesel V-6 with 250 horsepower

All the engine options are complete with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the engine, the F-150 can two anywhere from 8,200 to 14,000 pounds.

Overall Ratings

According to Car and Driver, the Ford F-150 is an affordable, dependable truck that is useful for work or everyday use. It received top ratings, too, and only falls behind the Ram 1500 for half-ton pickup trucks.

Ford F-Series Super Duty

This is the heavy-duty version of the popular Ford F-150. The Super Duty comes in F-250, F-350, and F-450 models. All trim packages and models have the six-seat option available with lots of cabin space.

Specifications

The Ford Super Duty comes with a standard 6.2-liter V-8 engine with 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

More powerful engine options are available in the F-Series Super Duty. These include a 7.3-liter V-8 with 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque, and a Power Stroke diesel 6.7-liter V-8 with 475 horsepower, and a whopping 1,060 pound-feet of torque.

Overall Ratings

The Ford F-Series Super Duty is the number two heavy-duty truck, according to Car and Driver. It is a powerfully impressive truck with high towing and payload capacity. The 2022 version has a lot of high-tech features, as well.

Ram 1500

This popular, reliable truck has a six-seater option in the Crew Cab or Quad Cab setup. Look for the Laramie, Big Horn, or Tradesman trim packages to pick the bench seat version.

Specifications

The Ram also has a lot of engine options to choose from. They are:

  • 6-liter V-6 ETorque Engine
  • 7-liter V-8 Hemi Engine
  • 7-liter V-8 Hemi ETorque Engine
  • 0-liter V-6 Turbo Diesel Engine

Overall Ratings

Car and Driver awarded the 2022 Ram 1500 the prestigious Editor’s Choice Award. It is also their top-rated half-ton pickup truck. The luxurious interior and smooth drive are blended with a work-tough truck.

Ram HD

The heavy-duty version of the award-winning Ram 1500 has semi-truck like towing capability, and comes in a six-seat version. All Ram HD trucks come with a crew cab option, but there is also a Mega Cab body style that offers even more interior room.

Specifications

Three engines are available in the Ram HD. A 6.4-liter V-8 comes standard and delivers 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The engine upgrades are a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-six in a 370 horsepower, 850 pound-feet of torque version, or a 400 horsepower high output version.

Overall Ratings

The Rams swept the Editors’ Choice Awards at Car and Driver. The reviewers loved the spacious, high-end interior in this heavy-duty truck, as well as the responsive, powerful engine. The Ram HD is their number one ranked heavy-duty pickup truck.

Toyota Tundra

Unfortunately, the 2022 version of the Toyota Tundra does not have a front bench seat option. If you want a 6-seater Tundra, look for a used model in the Crew Cab or CrewMax body style.

Specifications

The Tundra has two options available. Choose from either a Twin Turbo 3.5-liter V-6 4×2 with an Automatic Limited Slip Differential, or a 4×4 version of the same engine.

Overall Ratings

As far as foreign trucks go, most automotive enthusiasts recommend the Tundra over the Nissan Titan.

What’s the Difference Between a Bench Seat and a Bucket Seat?

Most trucks come standard with two bucket seats and a center console in the front, and a bench that can seat three across the back. A bucket seat seats one person and is shaped more like a chair.

A truck that seats six people will have two bench seats, one in front and one in back. These seats are flat across and each has three seatbelts.

Final Thoughts

Whether you want a half-ton or full-ton truck, seat the whole crew in your truck with a six-seater pickup truck! Fortunately, there are quite a few trucks on the market that have models available with two bench seats.
